Halloween. It's just for fun isn't it?Ephesians
5:1, 11 – “Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but
rather expose them.”
On October 18th preparations began, as they do every year, for the great event. It is a much anticipated event but you won’t be reading about it in the papers.
There is a great jockeying for position, prominence and power. There are offerings and sacrifices, allegiance and betrayals. All seeking one thing: power and control.
What am I talking about? All Hallows Eve or Halloween. What does Halloween have to do with power-seeking control freaks? Everything. But first, some background…
Modern day Halloween finds its roots among a group of people called Celtics who lived throughout the British Isles, Scandinavia and Western Europe beginning around 300 B.C. Having migrated from South East Asia, they shared many of the Hindu/Buddhists mystic beliefs including that of reincarnation; that when we die, we are reincarnated into human or animal.
Among the Celtics were the Druids, a secret society of learned priests and pagans who served the demonic god of death, Samhain (saw-win). Samhain was/is the god of the dead. It was believed that on the last day of each year, Samhain gathered the souls of all the evil people that died that year and assigned them to animals. Good souls reincarnated into humans.
The Celtics and their priests believed that the last day of their year, October 31st, marked the day when the barrier between this world and the underworld was weakest. Each year, on October 31st (New Years Eve) the Druids celebrated with the Festival of Samhain. It was then that the souls of the dead being gathered by Samhain were allowed to temporarily return to their homes (the good ones) or cause trouble (the bad ones).
The Druid priests were responsible for offering sacrifices to the gods, especially the god of death, Samhain. Sacrifices all the way from vegetable to human were offered.
During the festival, the priests would go from house to house demanding all sorts of foods. Often the villagers would make cakes for the priests to take. They became known as soul cakes. If the village people would not give them the foods, they would speak curses over the homes and torment the villagers with their magic. This was the origin of "trick or treat."
When the Druids were going house to house seeking food for Samhain, they would carry a large turnip that had been hollowed out. A face was usually carved on one side and a candle was placed inside to provide light. The Druids believed a spirit inhabited the turnips and helped the Druids carry out their spells. The name given the spirit was JOCK. When the practice came to America in the 18th and 19th centuries, turnips weren't that prominent but pumpkins were. JOCK became Jack, who lives in the lantern or Jack-O-Lantern.
On May 13th, 610 AD, Pope Boniface IV instituted the celebration of All Saints Day as he consecrated the Pantheon at Rome to the Blessed Virgin and all the Christian martyrs. In the 9th century AD, Pope Gregory III declared November 1st to be All Saints Day in an effort to blend with and ultimately replace the pagan celebration of Samhain. The effort failed. October 31st became the eve of All Saints Day. The Mass said on All Saints Day was the Allhallowmas. Over the years, the evening before All Saints Day became known as All Hallow's Eve, All Hallowed Eve, All Hallow E'en and finally Halloween.
In Ireland, during the festival of Samhain, children would dress like IMPS and fairies to lead the ghosts and goblins out of town after the Feast of Samhain. In England, after All Saints Day was created, children would dress in each other's clothes and go door-to-door begging for soul cakes.
In the Middle Ages there was a great revival of satanic practices, witchcraft, magic - like today. During this time the belief developed that witches would travel on broomsticks to the black Sabbaths to worship Satan on October 31st. It was also believed that they were guided by spirits in the form of black cats. The Druids worshiped cats believing them to be reincarnated evil people.
Wait a minute! Satanic practices? Witchcraft? Magic? Are you saying you believe in all this? God does. And, He calls us to be knowledgeable; to discern between holy and unholy things.
Hosea 4:6 – “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.”
As Christians, God has made us all kings and priests unto Him.
Revelation 1:6 – “To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to God and His Father; to Him be the glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.”
Concerning Old Testament laws governing priests, God says this:
Ezekiel 44:23 – “And they shall teach My people the difference between the holy and the unholy, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean.”
In Deuteronomy 18:9-14 God lays down the laws regarding how the people should relate to the surrounding peoples. God calls His people to be blameless regarding the abominations which take place around them. We are not to participate in these things.
James 1:27 – “Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.”
God calls us to remain unspotted from the world through an ability to discern the holy from the unholy; the unclean from the clean. He calls us to see the world through His eyes. Since we are continuously striving to see things from God’s perspective, what is God’s perspective regarding Halloween? We’ve begun to see God’s heart, let’s look through His eyes.
The Bible teaches that there is a natural (physical) world and a spiritual world. The domain of physical human beings is the natural world. The “heavenlies” are occupied by spirit beings. Of these spirit beings, there are two classes: the good and the evil. In the Scriptures, both holy and unholy spirit beings are called angels.
Revelation 12:7 – “And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought…”
Usually, the unholy angels are referred to as demons, translated in the KJV as devils.
Angels are referred to as seraphim, cherubim, principalities, powers, rules of the darkness of this age, thrones, dominions, fallen angels, spirits in prison, demons, and seducing spirits. There are an “innumerable company of angels”. They are referred to as “mighty angels” but they are not almighty. One angel destroyed 185,000 of the Assyrian army in a night. One angel rolled away the stone from the tomb of Jesus and one angel will bind Satan and cast him into the “bottomless pit.” They possess great knowledge but they are not omniscient. Hebrews 1 tells us that angels are “ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation”. 2 Thessalonians 1 says they are also responsible for “taking vengeance on them that know not God and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
The chief of the fallen angels is an archangel who has at least forty names given in Scripture. Some are proper names, others are descriptive. In Revelation 12:10 he is called the "accuser of the brethren". In Revelations 20:2, "that old Serpent", indicating his guile. Isaiah 14:12 indentifies him as Lucifer, meaning "Son of the Morning", which was his title when he fell.
• The Greek word used in Revelation 12:9 for Devil means "accuser or slanderer". • Satan is of Hebrew origin and means "adversary or resister".
• Apollyon is used in Revelation 9:11 and means "destroyer".
• Dragon is used 13 times throughout the Book of Revelation and speaks of his power.
He is also called "Prince of devils." (Matthew 9:34), "Prince of this world", (John 12:31), "Belial" is implied to be his title in 2 Corinthians 6:15. In 2 Kings 1: 2, 6, 16, he is referred to as "Beelzebub", implying a prince of demons.
As Dr. Lewis S. Chafer, founder and first president of Dallas Theological Seminary, once said, "In power, prominence and importance, Satan appears in the Bible second only to the Trinity."
Two of his most powerful names are: "The prince of the power of the air", (Ephesians 2:2) and "the god of this world", (age) (2 Corinthians 4:4).
Satan and his demons rule this world until Christ returns to set up His throne.
Dr. Chafer points out that "Demon influence, like their activity, is prompted by two motives: both to hinder the purpose of God for humanity, and to extend the authority of Satan. They therefore, at the command of their king, willingly cooperate in all his God-dishonoring undertakings. This influence is exercised both to mislead the unsaved and to wage an increasing war against the believer,"
Thus, the Apostle Paul tells us, in Ephesians 6:12, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
Derek Prince, considered by some as one of the greatest Christian thinkers of the 20th Century, writes, "Today, by divine providence, the veils of convention and carnality are once again being drawn aside, and the church of Jesus Christ is being confronted by the same manifest opposition of demon power that confronted the church of the New Testament. In these circumstances, the church must once again explore the resources of authority and power made available to her through the truth of the Scripture, the anointing of the Holy Spirit, and the Name and the Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ."
The Bible warns us in 1 Peter 5:8 to "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour,"
Do not be deceived, Satan (with his demons) is after you, your family and your children!
“Ok”, you say, “we understand that there are fallen angels that minimally want to cause us to rebel against God and ultimately want to destroy us. But, what does that have to do with Halloween? It’s just a thing we do to give the kids some fun, isn’t it?”
Is it? What does participation in this celebration teach our children? That demons, witchcraft and sorcery isn’t real? That Satan wears red tights and carry’s a pitch fork? That it’s all fun?
Satan desires, and has been very successful at, deceiving the world into believing that he doesn’t exist. We mock evil and yet God strictly warns us away from all such things. Do we see, believe and act according to God’s perspective? Do we take seriously God’s warnings to us regarding the spiritual wars that rage around us?
History traces to the ancient religion of the Druid a religion so evil that Rome forbad its practice. The American Peoples Encyclopedia explains, "The origin of Halloween customs antedate Christianity; the Druid Festival of Samhain. It was a night of ghosts and faeries, in which bonfires were built and futures were foretold and witches rode through the sky."
The modern sophisticate, ignorant to the reality of spiritual warfare and demonic activity may say, "Witches are for Halloween. It is a time for children to visit the neighborhood to get candy and apples. There is no harm in celebrating Halloween with its witches and devils."
If witches are for Halloween - a thing of the past, then why are so many young people and older ones alike being drawn into the grips of Satan by 'dabbling' in those things which relate to him?
Paulus Grillandus, a 16th century papal judge (witch trial judge), said of the practice of witchcraft: "Those witches who have solemnly devoted themselves to the Devil's service, worship him in a particular manner with ceremonial sacrifices, which they offer to the Devil, imitating in all respects the worship of Almighty God, with vestments, lights, and other ritual observance, so that they worship and praise him, just as we worship the true God."
Rev. Irene A. Park was a modern day witch who had once risen to the position of High Priestess for the State of Florida, only to see herself being destroyed by the very demons that she had faithfully served. Rev. Parks was given up to die by doctors, police and her own Satanic clan. In her book, The Witch That Switched, Rev. Park tells the story of Jesus’ victory in her life. In it she says, “The Lord told two bold Christian women to fast and pray for a woman called Irene Park. They obeyed Jesus and believed for her conversion by praying and fasting 40 days for her soul!” Rev. Park gives insight into modern witchcraft rituals. In her writings she shares:
These are the preparations for power and control which I mentioned at the beginning.
Millions of people who are involved in witchcraft, the occult and Satanism are vying for power; supernatural powers of evil to work curses, hexes, spells, power to manipulate, controlling power over lesser forces of darkness and power to control this present world system!
With Derek Prince, I believe God is calling His people to action; to wake up and begin praying.
Dr. Park writes, "Many of the people are saturated in demonology with demonic spirits and are already in control of government establishments, militaries, religious organizations, financial systems, educational institutions, etc. These spirits are superior and receive their origin in Satan and are under the powers of the familiar spirits (spirit guides) that work divination and will only impart power to those totally yielded to obedience and in every obligation required by Lucifer.
Witches, druids, wizards, magicians, sorcerers, pagans of every breed are in high mass, tribe and clan leaders are calling a reunion in the supernatural realm. These are Sabbaths to the worshipers of Satan, "people in the occult," and they take these days very seriously.
“Christians should begin to pray for their families, church leaders, and cover the children with the blood of Jesus and the protection of God during these days. There is no question that human sacrifices are occurring. Bind the powers of darkness and lose the power of God according Matt. 18:18.”
(There are more than two million children missing every year. Many too young to run away. At least 7,000 are found dead every year).
Dr. Parks says, "The highest Sabbath mass is the eve of October 31st. This a time of proclaiming powers for control and leadership in the Satanic realm world systems. There are blood sacrifices offered up to the god of Baal worship, the sun god Ra, and to the goddess of fertility Diana.”
Christians should begin their defensive spiritual warfare weeks before Halloween. Witches begin their preparation on the 18th day of October.
"On the 18th day of October, faithful followers of evils spirits gather for 13 days before the eve of Halloween of Sabbath. During this time they offer sacrifices (human or animal) to the god of the spirit world, Satan. These sacrifices are to obtain spiritual power. All the followers must give a blood sacrifice; some give their own blood, others offer an animal's blood, the more power they want, the greater the sacrifice.
"There is every conceivable type of orgy happening from the 18th until 31st of October. Disembodied spirits loosed from the bodies of animals are being vied for by spiritualists, witches, druids, wizards and Satan worshipers. All of the corrupt evil wickedness and vile filth one could imagine is happening. Some things happen in the open, but most of the spiritual activity is well guarded from every corner of the earth at the command of the Lord Druid.”
Still think Halloween is just a fun time for kids?

You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons. Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He? All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify.”

Deuteronomy 11:26-28 – “Behold, I set before you today a blessing and a curse: the blessing, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you today; and the curse, if you do not obey the commandments of the Lord your God, but turn aside from the way which I command you today, to go after other gods which you have not known.”

God’s heart is clear on our participating in pagan celebrations.

Nor shall you bring an abomination into your house, lest you be doomed to destruction like it. You shall utterly detest it and utterly abhor it, for it is an accursed thing.”
God calls us out of pagan practices and into holiness.
Philippians 4:8-9 – “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.”
Brothers, sisters, pray about this. What should our response to these things be? How many of our brothers and sisters in Christ have been deceived?
Joshua 24:14-18 - "Now therefore, fear the LORD, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the LORD! And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." I believe the children of God should be gathering together and coming against this day with prayer and fasting. I believe that participating in any way gives credence to a day where none should be given. I believe our Father calls us to make a distinction between things holy and unholy; between the clean and unclean.
As Halloween is the most holy day for all who oppose God, I believe that if we are not willing to make a distinction on this day above all, we are fostering a hypocrisy that the world knows all too well.

The American Peoples Encyclopedia explains, "The origin of Halloween customs antedate Christianity; the Druid Festival of Samhain. It was a night of ghosts and faeries, in which bonfires were built and futures were foretold and witches rode through the sky."
The modern sophisticate, ignorant to the reality of spiritual warfare and demonic activity may say, "Witches are for Halloween. It is a time for children to visit the neighborhood to get candy and apples. There is no harm in celebrating Halloween with its witches and devils."
If witches are for Halloween - a thing of the past, then why are so many young people and older ones alike being drawn into the grips of Satan by 'dabbling' in those things which relate to him?
Paulus Grillandus, a 16th century papal judge (witch trial judge), said of the practice of witchcraft: "Those witches who have solemnly devoted themselves to the Devil's service, worship him in a particular manner with ceremonial sacrifices, which they offer to the Devil, imitating in all respects the worship of Almighty God, with vestments, lights, and other ritual observance, so that they worship and praise him, just as we worship the true God."
Rev. Irene A. Park was a modern day witch who had once risen to the position of High Priestess for the State of Florida, only to see herself being destroyed by the very demons that she had faithfully served. Rev. Parks was given up to die by doctors, police and her own Satanic clan. In her book, The Witch That Switched, Rev. Park tells the story of Jesus’ victory in her life. In it she says, “The Lord told two bold Christian women to fast and pray for a woman called Irene Park. They obeyed Jesus and believed for her conversion by praying and fasting 40 days for her soul!” Rev. Park gives insight into modern witchcraft rituals. In her writings she shares:

These are the preparations for power and control which I mentioned at the beginning.
Millions of people who are involved in witchcraft, the occult and Satanism are vying for power; supernatural powers of evil to work curses, hexes, spells, power to manipulate, controlling power over lesser forces of darkness and power to control this present world system!
With Derek Prince, I believe God is calling His people to action; to wake up and begin praying.
Dr. Park writes, "Many of the people are saturated in demonology with demonic spirits and are already in control of government establishments, militaries, religious organizations, financial systems, educational institutions, etc. These spirits are superior and receive their origin in Satan and are under the powers of the familiar spirits (spirit guides) that work divination and will only impart power to those totally yielded to obedience and in every obligation required by Lucifer.
Witches, druids, wizards, magicians, sorcerers, pagans of every breed are in high mass, tribe and clan leaders are calling a reunion in the supernatural realm. These are Sabbaths to the worshipers of Satan, "people in the occult," and they take these days very seriously.
“Christians should begin to pray for their families, church leaders, and cover the children with the blood of Jesus and the protection of God during these days. There is no question that human sacrifices are occurring. Bind the powers of darkness and lose the power of God according Matt. 18:18.”
(There are more than two million children missing every year. Many too young to run away. At least 7,000 are found dead every year).
Dr. Parks says, "The highest Sabbath mass is the eve of October 31st. This a time of proclaiming powers for control and leadership in the Satanic realm world systems. There are blood sacrifices offered up to the god of Baal worship, the sun god Ra, and to the goddess of fertility Diana.”
Christians should begin their defensive spiritual warfare weeks before Halloween. Witches begin their preparation on the 18th day of October.
"On the 18th day of October, faithful followers of evils spirits gather for 13 days before the eve of Halloween of Sabbath. During this time they offer sacrifices (human or animal) to the god of the spirit world, Satan. These sacrifices are to obtain spiritual power. All the followers must give a blood sacrifice; some give their own blood, others offer an animal's blood, the more power they want, the greater the sacrifice.
"There is every conceivable type of orgy happening from the 18th until 31st of October. Disembodied spirits loosed from the bodies of animals are being vied for by spiritualists, witches, druids, wizards and Satan worshipers. All of the corrupt evil wickedness and vile filth one could imagine is happening. Some things happen in the open, but most of the spiritual activity is well guarded from every corner of the earth at the command of the Lord Druid.”
Still think Halloween is just a fun time for kids?
Ezekiel 44:23 – “And they shall teach My people the difference between the holy and the unholy, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean.”
1 Corinthians 10:19-23 – “What am I saying them? That an idol is anything, or what is offered to idols is anything? Rather, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons. Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He? All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify.”
1 Thessalonians 5:22 – “Abstain from every form of evil.”
Deuteronomy 11:26-28 – “Behold, I set before you today a blessing and a curse: the blessing, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you today; and the curse, if you do not obey the commandments of the Lord your God, but turn aside from the way which I command you today, to go after other gods which you have not known.”
Ephesians 5:11 - "And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them."
God’s heart is clear on our participating in pagan celebrations.
Deuteronomy 7:25-26 – “You shall burn the carved images of their gods with fire; you shall not covet the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it for yourselves, lest you be snared by it; for it is an abomination to the Lord your God. Nor shall you bring an abomination into your house, lest you be doomed to destruction like it. You shall utterly detest it and utterly abhor it, for it is an accursed thing.”
God calls us out of pagan practices and into holiness.
Philippians 4:8-9 – “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.”
Brothers, sisters, pray about this. What should our response to these things be? How many of our brothers and sisters in Christ have been deceived?
Joshua 24:14-18 - "Now therefore, fear the LORD, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the LORD! And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." So the people answered and said: "Far be it from us that we should forsake the LORD to serve other gods; for the LORD our God is He who brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, who did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way that we went and among all the people through whom we passed. And the LORD drove out from before us all the people, including the Amorites who dwelt in the land. We also will serve the LORD, for He is our God."
I believe the children of God should be gathering together and coming against this day with prayer and fasting. I believe that participating in any way gives credence to a day where none should be given. I believe our Father calls us to make a distinction between things holy and unholy; between the clean and unclean.
As Halloween is the most holy day for all who oppose God, I believe that if we are not willing to make a distinction on this day above all, we are fostering a hypocrisy that the world knows all too well.
